Professional profile · Staff engineer track
I build complex systems—and help teams build them better.
I'm Conor Brown, a software engineer with 12 years of professional experience across distributed infrastructure, payments, enterprise applications, and independently developed software products. My work spans hands-on engineering, architecture, modernization, mentoring, and guiding implementation across teams.
Selected experience and impact
- Enterprise architecture and modernization (2025–present): Led or contributed substantially to Azure App Service migration work, containerization, Key Vault integration, runtime identity configuration, deployment pipelines, staging automation, and operational readiness.
- Domain-driven design: Built workflow/rules capabilities with aggregate-oriented behavior and CQRS patterns, facilitated DDD sessions, reviewed architecture across team boundaries, and documented reference implementations and standards for AI-assisted changes.
- Distributed hosting infrastructure: Built a remote hosting management and update-delivery system deployed across more than 2,000 servers, with functionality spanning IIS, file management, certificates, Windows services, and administration.
- Payments and reliability: Built a containerized card account updater and an Azure Service Bus-based API usage logging system designed around a 99.9% delivery SLA.
- Product engineering: Build and maintain independent applications including Pathway, Theoria, and mobile learning/productivity tools.
How I approach engineering
I start with the business problem, expected operating conditions, and the constraints that actually matter. I prefer domain-oriented modeling where behavior is complex, deliberate dependencies, maintainable interfaces, and architectures that can evolve without requiring a big-bang rewrite. I consider deployment, observability, security, testing, and the next engineer who has to maintain the code as part of the design.
Technical focus
- Backend and architecture: C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core Web API, MVC, Blazor, DDD, Clean Architecture, CQRS, distributed messaging, modular monoliths, microservices.
- Cloud and operations: Azure App Service, Key Vault, App Configuration, Service Bus, containers, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, monitoring, CI/CD.
- Frontend and mobile: TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Next.js, Vite, React Native/Expo, UI integration and end-to-end testing.
- Data and quality: SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cosmos DB, query and index tuning, xUnit, NUnit, Playwright, Cypress.
Leadership without losing the implementation
My preferred role combines deep individual technical contribution with architecture guidance and cross-team enablement. I've presented domain modeling concepts through working slices, guided reviews, and created written implementation standards so architectural intent is easier to carry into future features.
